How Amanda Mosborg ran 2:29 at Chicago
Amanda Mosborg comes back on the podcast to talk about the Chicago Marathon. Amanda is a Carleton alum who has turned into one of the fastest-rising marathoners in the country. The last time she joined us, she had just dropped 10 minutes at the 2025 Boston Marathon to run 2:37 and told us that qualifying for the Olympic Trials was no longer a matter of if but when. A few months later she won the Indy Monumental in 2:31:57, securing her OTQ.
Last weekend she ran 2:29:30 at the Chicago Marathon, placing 15th overall and fifth among American women in her first professional field at a World Marathon Major.
Amanda lives in Minneapolis, works full time in UX research, and is coached by Hayden Cox of Railroad Athletics. We caught up with her shortly after Chicago to talk about the chance encounter that got her into the pro field, the support system she built over the past year, how she hung on during the hardest marathon of her life, the trip to the ER that followed, and what all of this means for her future in the sport.
