The D3 Trials Files: Ryan Jara

"I definitely started getting to the point where I thought maybe I'm just a 2:34 guy. I'm just a high 15 5k guy and I'm okay with it."

Ryan Jara left Hope College as a 15:54 5ker. He enjoyed running and continued running well past graduation.

He had hit some of his goals, ran 73 minutes in a half marathon and as of 2019 was a 2:34 marathoner.

As time went on things began to click. Workouts were getting faster and the encouragement from his wife never waned.

In 2022, he made a big jump to 2:23 and the goal of the trials that seemed so distant didn't look to far away.

At the McKirdy Micro Marathon, Jara ran 2:17:19 to qualify for the Olympic Trials at the age of 36.

He credits his longevity to enjoying his runs and being adaptable in training.

His perspective of how he balances life, family and running will provide inspiration to all that are balancing all three.
